Sermon Notes - Revelation 19:11-21 - The Battle is Over - Littleby Baptist Church - February 6, 2022

1.     The end of Babylon will be celebrated.

a.      The 144,000 in heaven, the tribulation saints, angels, elders, and the living creatures… all in one form or another celebrate the end of Babylon and the triumph of our King.

2.     Then the real celebration begins.

a.      The wedding between our Lord and His bride the ‘C’ Church.

3.     The wedding ceremony can only mean one thing, Our Lord has returned!

4.     Revelation 19:11

a.      The white horse signifies that this is a triumphant rider.

b.     A triumphant rider in heaven who is called Faithful and True.

                                                    i.     A title Jesus used for himself in Revelation 3:14 in His letter to the Laodicean church.

c.       Judges and makes war with justice… our Righteous Lord is returning to this earth to carry out the needed judgement on those who have followed Satan.

5.     Revelation 19:12-13

a.      Eyes like a fiery flame – matches the description from Rev 1:14. Eyes like fiery flame tells us that Jesus sees all.

                                                    i.     He sees through the masks we wear.

ii.     His piercing vision brings judgement on the world.

b.     Many crowns were on His head – The crowns here are like those that a King would wear, and Jesus is wearing many of them.

                                                    i.     Satan and the antichrist wore 7 and 10 crowns, so some speculate that Jesus is wearing some number greater than 10 showing that He is greater than those that came before Him.

ii.     Greater than those who tried to take His place.

c.      A name that no one knows except Himself – While we may know our Savior, while we will spend an eternity with Him, there are still things beyond our understanding.

                                                    i.     Even in our glorified forms we will not know all there is about Jesus.

ii.     We know many names for Jesus, but there will be a name that is beyond our reach.

d.     He wears a robe dipped in blood – Whose blood will make Jesus robe red?

                                                    i.     We see similar imagery in Revelation 14 talking about when judgement falls on the earth, but Isaiah paints a strong picture – Isaiah 63:1-6.

1.     These words in Isaiah are talking about the second coming of the Christ.

ii.     The Rabbis used to teach that these verses pointed to Christ’s robe being covered in blood when He crushed their Roman enemies.

iii.     They understood that these verses were pointing to Jesus’ robe being covered in the blood of those being judged.

1.     Like the grapes crushed in the winepress.

iv.     Nothing to do with His blood covering us, but the righteous judgement that is coming.

                                                  v.     His name is called the Word of God – the Greek word here is Logos, it is the same word used in John 1:1.

vi.     Another confirmation that the rider is the Triumphant Jesus!

6.     Revelation 19:14

a.      I believe we are looking at an army compiled of more than one group.

b.     Matthew 13:41-2 – The angels of the Lord will be part of the armies that accompany Him when He returns to bring judgement.

                                                    i.     This is common throughout scripture, the armies of the Lord are angelic in nature.

c.      What about how it states that they were wearing pure white linen, that would be a sign of someone who has been redeemed by our Lord’s sacrifice.

                                                    i.     144,000 – Revelation 14:4

ii.     The faithful followers of Christ are with Him.

d.     Looking at all of this together, when Jesus returns, He will be accompanied by angels and those He has redeemed.

7.     Revelation 19:15-16

a.      A sharp sword that came from His mouth – a sword that pierces deeper than any other can. A sword that brings judgement on those who have turned away from Jesus and embraced Satan.

b.     An iron scepter pointing to that the rider of the white horse is set to rule from this day forward.

c.      When Jesus returns, His judgment will be true, and He will be Lord of All.

d.     Again, our Lord is identified, this time as ‘King of Kings and Lord of Lords.’

                                                    i.     He will rule over all earthly kings and be Lord over all other lords.

ii.     Nothing will be outside of His reign.

8.     Revelation 19:17-18

a.      Great supper of God – As gross as this sounds, the birds are being invited to a celebration.

b.     A celebration of our Lord’s victory over all who are against Him.

c.      His victory at the coming great battle of Armageddon.

d.     The birds are called to feast on those who are about to be crushed in the winepress by our Lord Jesus.

9.     Revelation 19:19

a.      As John is watching these events unfold, he sees the antichrist and those who are following him.

b.     He sees that they have come together to take on the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

c.      To take on our Lord and His army.

d.     I wonder if those that are standing with the antichrist will think they have a chance or will they know that the end is at hand when they see Jesus coming their way?

e.      The earthly forces are ready, and the battle of Armageddon begins.

10.  Revelation 19:20

a.      The war at the end of the world never really happens.

b.     Jesus shows up, the antichrist and the false prophet are thrown into the lake of fire.

c.      They will not be able to stand before our King.

d.     In many ways our Lord is triumphant over His enemies before the battle even begins.

11.  Revelation 19:21

a.      They will be killed with the sword that comes from the mouth of Jesus…

                                                    i.     The battle will be won by the power of Jesus.

                                                  ii.     By His spoken Word.

iii.     Nothing else will be needed.

iv.     The armies that accompany Jesus, are not needed.

                                                  v.     The creator of the universe has the power to judge the world on His own.

vi.     All who take the mark of the beast, those who fail to turn to the Savior Jesus, will be judged.

b.     The great battle of Armageddon really isn’t much of a battle after all.

12.  When our Lord returns, He will be that triumphant King.

13.  Nothing and no one can stand in His way.

14.  There is no limit to our Lord’s Power.

15.  Power that brings judgement on the wicked, but thankfully it does not end there.

16.  Our righteous God is a God of Love.

a.      He desires that none shall perish.

17.  The righteous judge climbed on that cross to pay for our sins.

18.  He died and rose again to give us the most amazing gift of an eternity with Him.

19.  All we have to do is accept the gift.

20.  All anyone has to do is answer the door when Jesus knocks and accept the gift of Grace, He is offering to us.

21.  If you don’t know Jesus, I would love to talk about Him with you.

22.  For those that know Jesus, as we see apathy increasing around us.

23.  As we see people choosing other things over Jesus, we need to be praying.

24.  We need to let God use us touch the lives of others.

25.  The Ask today is simple…

a.      Pray for God to work in the lives of those around you.

b.     Pray for their hearts to be changed.

c.      Pray for God to use you.

d.     Pray that you have the courage, wisdom, and boldness you will need.

e.      Pray for those who need Jesus.
