Sermon - Grace Trumps Sin - Littleby Baptist at New Hope Fulton - October 27, 2019

There is a lot of stuff that happens every day around the world that we do not like. Sometimes it is close to home sickness, pain, financial struggles, loss of a loved one, and more. Then their are those things that seem so big that we are not sure how we can even begin to have an impact. Military conflict, persecution, racism, moral decay, broken families, abortions, and sadly the list goes on. There are a lot of things in this fallen world that breaks God’s heart and hopefully breaks our hearts to.

We live in a fallen world and sin and fallen nature can be found in an abundance. How are we as followers of Jesus to respond to all of these things. When the personal struggles get to us, when the darkness in the world wears us down, how are we supposed to respond to a fallen world?

Romans 5:12-21

12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned. 13 In fact, sin was in the world before the law, but sin is not charged to a person’s account when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam’s transgression. He is a type of the Coming One.
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift which comes through the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflowed to the many. 16 And the gift is not like the one man’s sin, because from one sin came the judgment, resulting in condemnation, but from many trespasses came the gift, resulting in justification. 17 Since by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
18 So then, as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is justification leading to life for everyone. 19 For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so also through the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 The law came along to multiply the trespass. But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness, resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

We could spend a whole lot of time in these verses, but I want to really focus on one thing.

Look at verse 17 again.

“Since by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.”

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have received the ‘overflow of grace’. It does not matter what has happened in your life before that point. It does not matter what you have done, and it does not matter what craziness is going on in this world. You have been given more than enough grace to cover all of it.

A drop of grace from Jesus is more than you will ever need, but we are told in verse 17 that we are given an overflow of grace. Meaning we have way more than enough.

If you are struggling with sin, you have enough Grace from Jesus to grant you eternal life with your Lord. It is not just enough Grace to cover your sins, it is enough to completely wipe them away. Are you overwhelmed with the stuff going on in this world? God grants us an abundance of grace to carry you through this day and every day.

Here is the thing to remember… Grace Trumps Sin! The Grace of Christ Trumps All the Sin in this World! Whether it is our personal sin or the sin that is rampant in this fallen world. The Grace given to each of us who have submitted to Jesus, is triumphant over all of it.

The sin and struggles released into this world by the first man, Adam are more than covered by the Grace given to us by the death of the Son of God.

Our Lord will give us more Grace than we need, our cups will overflow with Grace. Our temptations and problems will not disappear, they are still going to be there, but The Lord’s Grace will be more than we need to walk through them.

Hebrews 13:14

“For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come.”

When this world starts to get the best of us, one of the things we need to remember is, that this world and all the sin in it, is only temporary.

This world we live in is not our home. The violence, death, hardship, sickness, hatred, and sin will not exist in our future home. We need to be looking towards the world to come and how glorious it will be and let go of this world of sin that we live in.

Romans 5:21 that we read earlier tells us that we will receive ‘eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.’ That eternity will not take place in these broken vessels or in this sin filled world, it will be in the presence of Jesus with no more pain, no more sickness, no more death, hatred, persecution, or sin.

Sometimes I wonder how people survive in this fallen world without the overflowing gift of Grace we have been given. How can people endure without the Holy Spirit guiding them? I don’t know about you, but I would be lost without the Love, Joy, Peace, Wisdom, Faith, Strength, and so much more that comes from the work of the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 3:20-21

20 but our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly wait for a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21 He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of his glorious body, by the power that enables him to subject everything to himself.”

Not only will this sinful world be replaced with a glorious one, but so will our bodies. Thankfully we will not spend an eternity in these fallen, sick, and hurting bodies, we will receive Glorious Bodies in the likeness of our Lord. No more pain, no more sickness, no more limitations.

One day we will be in Glory and all of our pain will be gone.

I pray we can take comfort today knowing that God will give us an overflowing of Grace. A gift that will carry us through anything we are facing. I also pray that we remember that when things in this world and these bodies knock us down, that we remember that they are only temporary.

Remember, the Lord is giving us more than enough grace to deal with this fallen world until we arrive in the next. Grace to carry us through until we stand before our Lord. God’s Grace is triumphant over all sin.

Having faith in our Lord Jesus not only grants us Grace today, but also gives us the promise of a glorious forever.

When life does not go as planned, remember there is an overflowing of grace to available for you. Grace to carry your through the sickness and pain. Grace to comfort you in your time of need. Grace to wipe away your sins and if that is not enough, there is enough Grace to give you a new body in Glory.

All of the garbage will be wiped away with that gift of Grace that is triumphant over sin.

This awe inspiring, amazing Grace is available to all who repent of their sins and declare Jesus as their Lord. If you believe that Jesus is your Lord, if you have repented of your sins, this grace is yours. It may not feel like it right now, but I am here to tell you that it is there for you. Seek Jesus with all that you are, and you will see His Grace at work in your life. You will see that His Grace wipes away your sins and that His Grace is greater than this world we live in.

The Grace of Christ is greater than anything you are battling today.

If you want this Grace but don’t know where to begin, I encourage you to come forward and we will pray with you. If you are need of prayer for anything, please come forward and one of us will pray with you.

God Bless and Thanks for Reading!

Robert
