Sermon - God Wants to Hear From You - Littleby Baptist at New Hope - April 28, 2019

Prayer is a vital part of our Christian walk. Our life as followers of Jesus starts with a prayer and it is something that we should be doing constantly. Whether it is asking for God's blessing over the day, praying for someone we care about, or facing a major decision.

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray constantly, 18 give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Paul is saying we need to be rejoice, pray, and giving thanks.

Someone may say that they pray but feel God is not listening. I am here to tell you that God does hear your prayers and He wants you to keep calling out to Him.

“God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you. I thirst for you; my body faints for you in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.” - Psalm 63:1

David understood that God wanted to hear from him and scripture shows us that he was not shy about praying. There are examples in scripture of David praying for the future, praying for salvation from enemies, crying out in pain from the situation he was in, and begging for forgiveness. David, a Friend of God, prayed.

Sometimes our prayers are focused on asking for things for us or others, but they should not be limited to our needs.

“I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.” - Psalms 27:4

When we pray, God wants to hear that we love Him.

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help.” – Psalm 34:15

God is listening for your prayers! His ears are open and He is eagerly waiting to hear from you!

He loves hearing your voice in the morning when you wake up. He wants to hear that you love Him. He hears you, even when you are so busy with your hectic lives that your prayers last a matter of seconds. He hears you when you are celebrating, He hears you when you are crying, God wants to hear from you.

Our Father loves to hear your prayers. Keep bringing your struggles, fears, dreams, and victories to Him. If you wonder if He is listening be assured the Bible tells us He is!

I have heard people say that they have prayed and things did not turn out the way they wanted, so they were done with prayer and done with God. As believers we are to pray constantly, whether we understand or like the outcomes we have seen.

30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” - Mark 12:30

God Loves us and we are to Love Him, no matter what. If our love is with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, it is not dependent on God answering our prayers. It does not matter if our prayers are answered they way we hope they are. If we love God, we need to not care about the outcome or what others think.

Take Bartimaeus for example.

46 They came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many warned him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more, “Have mercy on me, Son of David!” 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage! Get up; he’s calling for you.” 50 He threw off his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. 51 Then Jesus answered him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Rabboni,” the blind man said to him, “I want to see.” 52 Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has saved you.” Immediately he could see and began to follow Jesus on the road.” - Mark 10:46-52

Bartimaeus knew that a touch or word from Jesus would change his life. Those around him told him to be quiet, but he did not listen. When the Messiah went by, Bartimaeus cried out to Him. He did not let those naysayers stop him. When they tried to shush him, he cried out even more. He knew the truth and was not afraid. He understood that Jesus wanted to hear him.

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”” - John 14:6

Regardless of your situation Jesus is the way. Regardless of the doubts that are hold you back, Jesus is the truth. Regardless of where you are today, Jesus is the life. No matter what it is Jesus is the only answer. Never stop crying out to your Jesus. Never stop reaching out for His touch. Bartimaeus boldly cried out with all his strength. We need to cry out to God in boldness. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and He wants to hear from you.

“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.” - John 14:26

The Holy Spirit is our Counselor. He is our confidant. There is nothing we cannot tell Him. If we share our dreams and desires, He will guide us. If we share our fears, He will help us overcome them.

There are times we do not know what to pray for, but thankfully God does. We may not know what is in our best interest, but God does. There are times we just need to ask the Lord for His will to be done because we don’t know where to start. There are times we just simply need to tell Jesus we love Him, read Psalms to Him, or sing a song of praise. When we are not sure what to do, God still wants to hear from us.

The Holy Spirit takes our prayers and acts in our best interest. It is our faith in God and our faithful prayers that count. He knows each one of us better than we know ourselves. He knows our needs better that we do. He simply wants to hear from you. As Romans 8:31 says, ‘If God is for us, who is against us?’ If you dwell on that for a moment. If the Holy Spirit is working on your behalf when you pray and is on your side, who can really stand up to Him? Is the devil more powerful than God? Absolutely not! If Jesus has already defeated death for us, is there anything this world can throw at us that He cannot take care of? Absolutely Nothing!

God is on our side and He wants to hear from you.

Are there things that you think God cannot handle? Do you think the hole you have dug is to deep for God to help with? Do you think God is not interested in your daily struggles? Do you think you have to fix it on your own? Do you think God is not interested in your struggles with work? Do you limit God?

Really stop and think about this for a moment. Are there things in your life, struggles, sins, frustrations, dreams, desires, etc… that you have not talked to God about? If you don’t talk to God about it, you are limiting His response.

18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength. 20 He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens— 21 far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he subjected everything under his feet and appointed him as head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.” - Ephesians 1:18-23

Do not limit God by not talking to Him. As the Creator with all things subject to Him, He can do so much more than we could ever imagine. If you think of the power that was demonstrated by the raising of Jesus from the dead, is that a power that has limits?

That same power that raised Jesus on the third day is in you. Yes, the power that lifted the stone away from the tomb, that power that filled Jesus’ lungs with air, dwells within you through the work of the Holy Spirit. God is able to do so much more than we can ever imagine.

““Because of your little faith,” he told them. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20

Now I can honestly say I have never seen someone physically move a mountain, but I know that God answers prayers. I know people who have been healed. I know relationships that have been restored. I know lost people who have been saved. All we need is faith in our God and His power and nothing is impossible. God can do so much more than we could ever imagine. He wants to work through each one of us, we need to stop limiting Him. We must talk to our God.

God wants to hear from each one of us.
God wants us to cry out, with boldness like Bartimaeus.
God wants to hear our dreams, our fears, He wants to hear everything.
God can do so much more than we allow Him. His power has no limit.

Do you want to see God move in your life? Do you want to see Him move in ways you have never seen before? Pray constantly, pray with boldness, share everything with Him, have faith that He is more powerful than ANYTHING in this world and know that power has been given to you.

May you be filled with His Blessings,

Robert
