Pieces - How much are you giving God?

Bethel Music sings a song titled ‘Pieces’.

The chorus is “You don’t give Your heart in pieces, You don’t hide Yourself to tease us.”

What it is telling us is that God gave us everything He has. His love knows no boundaries. His love has paved the way to eternity in Glory. When He created us He gave us His entire heart. Not bits and pieces, but the WHOLE thing!

“He did not even spare His own Son but offered Him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything?” – Romans 8:32 HCSB

God gave us His only Son. What more could we ever need? Jesus died for us to pay the price of our sin. As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, He paid our debt in full. Not some partial payment where we have to earn the rest. He paid all of it. He did not give us a piece; He gave us everything.

If we look back in Genesis humankind was created to rule over the world. He gave us everything our eyes can see and even the stuff we cannot see. He has not held anything back; God did not give us pieces. He gave us all of creation and all of His heart.

If God has given you everything, how much are you giving Him?

Have you given God every part of your life or are you only giving Him the pieces you want? Do you give Jesus every hour of every day or only when you go to church? Are you honoring Him when you are with your ‘church’ friends and your ‘other’ friends? How about when you are alone, is that a piece of your life that you are giving to God? Do you come to Him when you are sick but not when you are healthy? How about when all your needs are met, is that time you spend with Jesus or do you keep that part to yourself?

“And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” - Colossians 3:17 HCSB

We are not told to give God the pieces of our life that we are comfortable giving Him and keep the rest for ourselves. Our words, every word need to honor God. Our deeds and actions, every action regardless of who we are with need to be done in the name of Jesus. If every word and every action is being done in His honor and in His name, there are no pieces being held back.

God did not hold anything back from us; we need to not hold anything back from Him.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all you soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.”  Mark 12:30 HCSB

Give God every piece of your life. It is easy to give Him some pieces and can be harder to give up some of the stuff you are holding on to. God loves you and He does not want you to hold onto that garbage. Yes, you might like that garbage but that is exactly what it is when you compare it to what God wants to give you. It will hurt to turn over those pieces of your life, but if you are loving God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength that is what you need to do. The more you hand over the closer you are to God. The closer you are to God more of the fruit of the Spirit you will receive.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law” – Galatians 5:22-23 HCSB

Can you use more of these in your life? I know I could! Only a fool would think they have enough love, joy, peace, and so on… in their life. Every one of us could use more fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

Give God every piece of your heart and life. Don’t hold anything back! He has held nothing back from you, so give Him all you have!

How do you give all of it to God?

The first step is to pray and ask God to show you the pieces of your life that you are holding back. Then dig into His Word. There are many on-line resources that will help you find verses that talk to the issues you are facing. You can talk to a pastor or another leader at your church. If you are struggling letting go of something, I would encourage you to talk to someone you trust and ask them to hold you accountable.

Spend time with God, talking to Him and in His Word. Draw close to Him, imHiHHspend time with other believers, and give God your pieces.

God Bless!

Robert
