Deposit, partial payment, or balance paid in full?

While working on an upcoming message in Galatians, I wrote something that has been sitting with me that I need to share.

“Jesus did not only make a deposit or down payment for your sins, He paid your debt in full!”

Not a new sentiment at all, but something we need to remember. Too often people think they are to broken, to messed up, and to sinful for Jesus to want them. I have had more than a handful of people tell me over the years that they would be struck by lightning if they came to church.

If we have to get our lives ‘in order’ before we can go to church or be accepted by Jesus Christ, what does that say about what Jesus did?

Was Jesus’ sacrifice limited in a way that He could only atone for some of our sin? Did His death only pay for a partial redemption? Was His blood only a deposit on our entry into Heaven?

Jesus went through hell on earth during His final hours.

“But He was pierced because of our transgressions,
crushed because of our iniquities;
punishment for our peace was on Him,
and we are healed by His wounds.” - Isaiah 53:5

He was betrayed, abandoned, humiliated, beaten, hung on a cross, pierced, and so much more. Jesus went from being hailed as the coming King to being condemned to die. His friends betrayed and abandoned Him. The pain from the beating alone could have killed Him. He willingly paid a very steep and painful price. He freely gave up His life to be a Holy sacrifice.

“who gave Himself—a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.” - 1 Timothy 2:6

Your sin is holding you ransom. No matter how small it is, it will keep you away from an eternity in the presence of God. A price needed to be paid. Jesus was and is that price. He did not give up some of His life to make a deposit on your salvation, He did not make a partial payment leaving you to cover the rest. He paid the entire price, covered every ounce of sin, no matter how big or small.

 “12 Having been buried with Him in baptism, you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And when you were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive with Him and forgave us all our trespasses. 14 He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the cross.” – Colossians 2:12-14

If you accept that you are a sinner, and believe that Jesus died as the ultimate sacrifice, but rose again defeating death you are saved. Your debt has been paid. As it says in above in verse 14, ‘He erased the certificate of debt’. Your debt has been obliterated. Your sin is not keeping you out of Heaven. Jesus has paved the way; all you have to do is Follow Jesus.

Confess your sins, accept His amazing gift of Salvation, and know that your sin debt no longer exists. He did not just cover the down payment. He did not make a partial payment, or even cover part of an installment plan. Jesus paid your debt in full.

Sound too good to be true? It is not. God loves you so much that He wants to spend eternity with you and Jesus is the only way to make it happen. It all starts with believing. Pray to Jesus today and accept His gift and let your sin debt be wiped away.

God Bless,

Robert
